Book of the Month

Product Analyst, Data

Product - New York, NY - Full Time

Book of the Month is looking for a highly organized Product Analyst to facilitate data delivery and reporting across the business. Our user base generates millions of rows of data daily, and this role will play a critical part in how the company turns that data into business decisions. You will serve as the bridge between our engineering team and business stakeholders — translating reporting needs into well-structured data products, and ensuring that the reports our teams rely on are accurate, well-organized, and up to date. You'll work across finance, supply chain, operations, growth marketing, product, editorial, and member experience.

What you will do…

Act as the product manager for our business intelligence:

  • Use SQL to create custom views from data sets in Snowflake to deliver on stakeholder reporting needs
  • Triage incoming reporting requests and write clear Jira tickets for the  engineering team
  • Conduct data QA on engineering tickets before they ship
  • Perform ad hoc data pulls to support time-sensitive business questions
  • Audit existing reports for accuracy and freshness; deprecate stale reports and maintain consistent naming conventions across the reporting folder
  • Overcommunicate progress and updates to stakeholders, and build lightweight tools that give stakeholders better visibility into the reporting roadmap
  • Document how to use our internal data sets effectively, and cross-train teammates on best practices
  • Explore and propose new tools that could improve how we visualize and report on customer metrics
  • Work closely with Product, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to understand reporting needs and execute against the reporting roadmap
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to ensure new features and experiments can be effectively measured and reported on
  • Surface gaps in our reporting infrastructure to leadership and help shape solutions

About You…

  • BS in a technical or analytical discipline.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a Data or Analytics role.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in writing SQL queries to transform processed data into reporting data.
    • Experience building reports and dashboards in a BI tool.
    • Nice to have: Experience with Snowflake
  • You have strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. You are passionate about revealing hidden relationships and patterns.
  • You are a strong collaborator who is excited to work with teams across the company to plan and execute data-driven projects that help the company make fact-based decisions.
  • You have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • You have a craft mindset and are consistently looking to optimize the data to stakeholder pipeline.
