Book of the Month

Manager, Branded Merchandise

Growth - New York, NY - Full Time

Book of the Month is looking for a creative, organized, and data-driven marketing manager to own our end-to-end free gift program. The free gift program offers new members a piece of branded, reader-focused merch as part of their intro offer. See here for examples. In this role, you'll lead the end-to-end strategy and execution of the program, including product concepting, sourcing brand partnerships, project management and fulfillment coordination, all while ensuring quality, brand alignment, and on-time delivery.

This role calls for a unique combination of skills: deep experience designing and managing the development of apparel or branded merch, a strong grasp of sourcing and supply chain, and the marketing instincts to bring the right merch to market compellingly. We're a small team with big ambitions, so your work will be visible and impactful from day one.

What you will do...

You will support our growth programs by:

  • Identifying and evaluating new gift concepts and categories, staying ahead of trends in product, design, and pop culture, and working with brand partners, to keep our offers feeling fresh and compelling.
  • Working closely with our Operations team on project management for various sourcing tasks, including negotiating terms, maintaining quality standards, and building a reliable pipeline of merch.
  • Owning project management across the program, keeping cross-functional workstreams on track, stakeholders aligned, and timelines on target.
  • Determining order quantities based on historical opt-in rates, survey data, and more.
  • Setting and tracking performance goals for the free gift program, including conversion rates and cost per acquisition.
  • Collaborating closely with Creative, Member Experience, Product, and Engineering teams to develop the campaigns, landing pages, and messaging that bring each gift offer to life.
  • Partnering with the broader growth team on channel strategy to determine how and where free gift offers are promoted across paid and owned media.

About you...

  • 4+ years of experience in marketing, merchandising, project management, or growth.
  • Experience with merchandise development, product sourcing, or retail is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communicator and cross-functional collaborator with the ability to align internal teams around a vision and build strong relationships externally.
  • Creative eye for product and design with strong taste and instincts for what will resonate with our audience.
  • Analytical and data-driven, with the ability to interpret performance data and act on it.
  • Ability to perform in a highly iterative and dynamic work environment, managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • A self-starter with a track record of taking ownership and driving projects from strategy to execution.
  • High standards for quality and attention to detail.
  • A love of reading and contemporary fiction.
