Creative Director
Summary:
Book of the Month is looking for a Creative Director to build and lead a world-class creative function for our growing brand. This person will manage the Creative team and internal creative processes from brief through execution across a wide variety of campaigns and assets. A successful candidate is a talented writer, storyteller, or producer first – but has learned how to be an effective leader across other creative disciplines over time. They must have a “social first” mind set to creative and brand building. They will prefer working collaboratively with executives and teams across the business – and are obsessed with using the creative to drive good outcomes to our customers, authors, and ultimately the business.
About the Role
- Lead the creation of brand and performance marketing messaging and concepts that drive incremental growth.
- Create campaign concepts that go beyond the obvious – they sell BOTM creatively, trying to activate a customer emotionally, rather than just logically.
- Manage the design team in the creation of strong visual assets for relevant campaign work across landing pages, emails, and advertising assets.
- Lead the creation of short-form social, video assets that drive incremental spend on social media.
- Bring a network of top-tier freelancers talent and agency contacts to match our talent pool with the changing needs of the business over time.
- Ensure consistency and quality across all of our work in a manner that elevates the brand and by maintaining a brand book and enforcing strict brand guidelines.
- Manage the creative operations function to deliver assets on spec and on-time, including being comfortable pushing the team to surge when necessarily.
About You
- 7+ years of experience likely consisting of some combination of the following experiences: (1) Multiple years as an IC working under someone who is at the top of their field, (2) Experience developing campaign concepts at an agency side by side with visual designers, (3) Producing social videos/ads by being scrappy and wearing multiple hats, (4) Making awesome creative assets in other domains such as long-form video, events, etc. (5) Experience building a brand with a unique identity and voice that resonates with a group of fans.
- Note: We have a strong preference for someone with either a deep writing background or short-form video production background.
- Avid consumer of culture and media, and active social media content creator.
- Experienced creative generalist with a sophisticated understanding of web and graphic design, fluency with design, art, photography, copy, and/or video.
- Extremely well-organized and has excellent time management skills. Comfortable working under pressure and working irregular hours when needed.
- Thrive in situations with ambiguity and complexity.
