About the Role:

Book of the Month is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Book Design Consultant to play a crucial role in the visual presentation of our monthly selections - including book jackets, cases, edges, endsheets, inserts, and more. As a Book Design Consultant, you will collaborate with our editorial, marketing, and operations teams to ensure that our books are not only compelling reads but also visually stunning objects that our members will be excited to receive and display. You will contribute to the overall aesthetic and brand identity of Book of the Month through innovative and thoughtful design choices.

What You'll Do:

Collaborate with the editorial team to understand the vision and target audience for each monthly selection.
Conceptualize and develop design concepts for book covers, including typography, special effects, imagery, and overall layout.
Collaborate with the editorial and member experience teams to ensure cover designs effectively communicate the book’s essence and appeal to our target audience.
Stay up-to-date on current design trends, printing technologies, and best practices in book design.
Ensure that all design elements adhere to production specifications and are feasible for printing and manufacturing.
Participate in cross-functional team meetings to discuss upcoming selections and design strategies.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of brand guidelines related to book design.
Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and projects stay within budget.
Contribute to the design of special edition books and other related materials.

A highly creative and visually astute individual with a keen eye for detail.
A proactive and self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and receive constructive feedback.
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
Experience working with external designers, illustrators, and printers is a plus.
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field.
2-5 years of experience in book design or a related design field.
